019 Bending the seat frame

Motorcycles Posted on Fri, November 04, 2016 20:06:06

Bending is a discipline that’s not to be taken lightly.
2d bending is difficult enough but now with 3d I’ve taken it to a whole new level for myself.
Because i’m going for quality, al my tubing is chrome-moly.
For those of you who’ve ever worked with this material, know that is not the easiest material to bend.(understatement)
So by keeping the radius say 90mm with a 25mm tube it’s possible to bend 180 degrees.
I have been very lucky acquiring a mandrel pipe bender that enables me to bend 25mm tube on a less than 60mm radius.
Smaller bends mean more flexibility in your design.
I’ve made a few test bends, but I’ m very happy how my frame turned out first time!
After testfitting and tack welding it in, it was now time for the seat.

What Happened?

Motorcycles Posted on Fri, November 04, 2016 12:06:02

As I m a very busy teacher during the week, I don’t always have time to blog, add pics or check my site.
So I was quite surprised when I saw this:
These are my site view statistics.
Looks like I’ve been getting a lot of interest lately…………………..I’m really flattered!
Thank you all for taking a look and I hope it’s all to your liking.

018 Let’s start with the front.

Motorcycles Posted on Wed, October 19, 2016 19:56:12

The front end had to be altered so the wheel was removed (it was going to be smaller) .
the triple tree was blasted and powder coated. Fork legs were dismantled and an internal 5cm. drop was made. The legs were a bit oily, so a new seal and guide bushing set were used in assembly after the legs were blasted and powder coated.
I stil had a smal alloy fender so I made this to fit on the original brace.
The upper clamp also houses the ignition switch.
I milled out the hole to fit a Koso 48mm. telltales meter .
A retro 5″ bates headlight was sourced. and the total package was put together.

I’m quite pleased how it turned out.

017 Making the checklist

Motorcycles Posted on Mon, October 17, 2016 17:53:21

So what needs to be done?
From the front to the rear:

New Headlight, Fork drop 5 cm., Blue powder coat the fork legs, new fender, stainless bolts,18 or 19 inch rim with new pokes and tyre, removing switch in the tree and placing a check light array, new handlebar, gps speedo, new conical bearings, new fork seals, Changing location of the tank mounts, lowering the fitting of the oil line, changing the exhaust, dry blast of the engine, painting and powder coating engine parts, ultrasonic cleaning the carb, replacing the link system, refurbishing rear shock, fabricating new rear subframe, fender and lighting.
New rear spokes, powder coating of hub an rim, new rear tyre.
New wiring loom and li-ion Battery.
That’ll keep me of the streets for a while! smiley

016 you gotta love’m

Motorcycles Posted on Mon, October 17, 2016 17:36:42

I’ve always loved single cilinder bikes. I’ve had plenty of them, but never a Honda.
Maybe because friends of mine used to own one, and I always wanted something different, hence the ducati’s.
But man are these Honda machines bulletproof!
I was always working on the bikes and my friends were just riding!
Something to think about eh?
As soon as the “Dommie” was in my workshop I started stripping it down and test fitted my newly acquired cg Tank.
Of course it didn’t fit but it gave me an overall idea of the looks.

015 The Blue Boy

Motorcycles Posted on Sat, October 15, 2016 20:30:12

Remember Me? …….The sound of this song played loud in my workshop when I unloaded my just purchased Honda Dominator at the workshop.
Looking at the Bike with this music I thought …..yeah what a great name for a Bike!
So Right at that very moment it was decided that the dommie would be blue.

It al started when I was working on my workshop when I visited a friend of mine in Nieuwleusen.
He also has another friend who builds bikes, his name is Klompjan and he really makes fine products.

He had a Honda 650 scrambler for sale but it was based on a XR650. So kickstart only.
I really wanted an electric start so the search for an Nx650 began and 1/2 a year later I found one nearby for the right price.

It turned out to be a rather rare example because it has a kickstart as wel and it has drum brake at the rear. I haven’t seen many with both these features.

014 Project#3

Sneak preview:smiley

013 Project#2 update

Motorcycles Posted on Fri, September 30, 2016 08:57:23

I didn’t like the stance on the front so the latest thing I did on it was a 2″ fork drop.
It looked better but then I saw a drop of fluid on the left front leg.
So I took the fork apart and changed the seals and while I was at it I decided that black powder coat would look better too.
So here we are!
