To Build a Bike or.....

Virtute-Singulare

All the ins and outs that go into building my bikes.
Tips tricks and challenges I face.

033 first day of the rebuild

Motorcycles Posted on Fri, July 19, 2019 17:45:07

So I when I started this project I was stil in the other building.
All the parts were put in boxes, then stored and then brought over to the new workshop.
I was certain I had already bought new steering stem bearings, but I could not find them in the box, where I thought I put them!
So after hours of going through all the boxes in the attic, I finally found them.
First I tapped out the old outer bearing rings then I fitted the new ones.
The tricky part was fitting the new lower stem bearing because it’s a tight fit and easily damaged. I had to source a piece of pipe that fitted over the stem, exactly on the face of the inner bearing ring and tap it down on top of the seal underneath.
It all worked out fine.
Fitting the front fork was easy.
Then the next challenge appeared: where are all the bolts for fitting the engine?
I suddenly remembered that I was in the proces of getting new ones when I decided to build a new workshop!
So I’ve just now ordered the new bolts and fitted the engine in the frame with a couple of old bolts.
So Here we are:

032 summer holiday

Motorcycles Posted on Wed, July 17, 2019 19:12:31

So at last some time for myself.
Time to finish my second build which should work with 1 and 1/2 arm.
I Had the frame sandblasted.
After the blasting some cracks showed up which had to be repaired.

After sandblasting I always degrease outside because I use Acetone.
I needed 2 coats and 2 bakes for this frame.

Cooled down, it’s now waiting for me to start the rebuild tomorrow!

031 Time to do the other workspace

Motorcycles Posted on Sat, April 13, 2019 16:08:54

I know, I’m fortunate to have some space around my place.
and since I can’t us my right arm, I had to wait for the right time to set up my lathe and mill.
I had to drill some holes and level the machines out, but now it’s finished so here are some pics:

Well, that’s taken some time.right?
Sorry to let you know that my arm won’t be getting better than it is now.
That means I can use it, but I have no strength in it.
So for all the lifting that I can’t do single-handed, I will have to ask someone to come and help me.
This is quite difficult for me, cause I’m used to doing things alone.
The upside is, that I now have an excuse to buy more power tools.

being swamped in my daily work, I have been thinking a lot on how to move forward.
So I have decided to see if I can quit 1 day a week from my daily job to be able to make some progress.

We’ll see how that develops.

In the meantime I’ve put the Honda on the lifting table and started on that.

029 health issues

Motorcycles Posted on Wed, August 08, 2018 18:27:15

Well it’s been quite a while since my last post.
I’ve had an accident while I was arranging the workshop.
The result was a ruptured distal biceps tendon which resulted in having my arm in a cast for over 6 weeks.
I am still not able to put a strain on my arm muscles but I have to move and train them to get the strength back, which will probably take another 6 weeks.
So there will be no progress till fall I guess.
In the meantime I’m gathering parts for what will be a killer project I’m very much looking forward to but won’t be started until next year. The cast removed after 6 weeks.

Keep in Touch!

026 My dog died

Bor

Rest
softly sweet buddy

Almost 12 years you were always there

Days of pain for you to spare

Medication in vain

Makes me sole to remain

Emptiness of my heart deep within

Nevermore touching furry skin

That last look in your eyes

Consciousness
triggers my despair

This really is the very last time

For us to mutually share
